Enabling Embedded Photo Info: Overlay GPS Location Data on Uploaded Images

Purpose/Overview

In this article, you will learn how to enable the Enable Embedded Photo Info feature, which overlays GPS location information onto photos.

Key Benefits/Use Cases:

  • Geotagged Visual Documentation: Field crews can automatically include location data on photos for added context during audits, inspections, or service validations.

Things to Know:

  • Permissions: Only users with Admin-level access can configure this setting. If, as an admin,  you don't see the toggle to Enable Embedded Photo Info, your assigned sales resource can ensure that the geotagging toggle is enabled for your company.
  • Dependencies: This feature depends on GPS data being embedded in the photo metadata.
  • Reverse Geocoding Caution: The feature uses GPS coordinates to generate a street address, which may be imprecise. Use this only if accuracy is not critical.
  • Recommended Use: Due to potential location inaccuracies, this feature is not recommended for general use.

To access this feature, go to System Management > Administration > Company Toggles

How It Works:

Follow these steps to enable the feature:

Step 1: Navigate to System Management > Administration > Company Toggles

Step 2: Select Enable Company Admin Toggle Management on the left side of the screen.
Step 3: Check the box for the Enable Embedded Photo Info toggle.

Step 4: Save your preferences.

When a photo with embedded GPS data is uploaded, the system will attempt to reverse geocode the latitude and longitude and append a street address on the image.
